Welcome to the Therapeutic Speakeasy!
What would it be like if professional counselors and counselor educators had a relaxed, secure place to let down their guard and discuss what they really think about professional issues with colleagues?
A speakeasy was a private bar, lounge, or nightclub that was only open to members who could cite the password through a peephole in the anonymous front door. This was a secret club, developed in the 1920’s to elude authorities who enforced Prohibition laws against the consumption of alcohol. Once inside, guests were free to lean back, kick up their feet, and socialize without fear of a police raid. People from all walks of life would mingle and mix with ease. The mood was elegant, dark, smokey, and a bit mysterious. Picture comfortable club chairs, curtained booths, velvet, and dim lights. Imagine moody jazz music playing in the background…
The Therapeutic Speakeasy was developed as a safe and comfortable forum for counseling professionals to talk to one another.
Feel free to let down your hair a little. The martini is optional.
